Volunteering with a Heart: Returning to Social Work
Meet Jenny, one of our dedicated volunteer social workers who is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those she serves. Her passion for helping others shines through in everything she does, and we are grateful to have her as part of our team.
‘I started volunteering at Babes in 2021. At that point, I wanted to continue to make use of my training, especially case management skills meaningfully as I have resigned from my job as a social worker to take care of my children. I must say, it was the best decision ever!
What top it was that I was given the opportunity to work with youths, a new area for me. Though I have a teenage daughter, the learning curve was still steep but the support and learning opportunities provided by the staff in Babes were first class, truly. I was not only sent to attend courses, but I was also given opportunities to attend talks organized by Babes as well as supervision sessions, a very important requirement for all social workers with a well-known counsellor in the field
Just wanted to take this opportunity to express my utmost appreciation to Babes in keeping the social worker in me alive!’
🎉 To celebrate women in this month of March #iwd2023, we will be featuring 10 inspiring women from our Babes community. In a photoshoot to capture the essence of courage and strength, they are our volunteers, partners, and community members—women with different stories with different starting points. We #EmbraceEquity as we celebrate their resilience, kindness, and determination, incredible role models striving for a world where everyone has the same opportunities and rights, and where inclusivity and diversity are celebrated and embraced. 💪
